Wat is FReC?
The Foreign Relations Committee is a group consisting of any students (officially) from Stenden University. The committee’s goal is guiding international students who are on exchange for a semester at a study from Stenden University.
Effectively, this means:
- Guidance at school;
- become acquainted with the Dutch and each others’ culture;
- helping with practical problems;
- showing Leeuwarden and The Netherlands.
To achieve these objectives, the following goals are drafted:
On arrival
- Make all exchange students acquaintanced with FReC by sending a letter with information about FReC and the introduction week;
- inform them about when and where they will be received and accommodated. (before arrival)
During stay
- Make acquaintanced with Leeuwarden and Stenden University;
- get to know the student life in Leeuwarden;
- get to know the Dutch culture;
- organizing (cultural) activities and events;
- make the exchange students organize their own events.
On departure
If the group was participative, we make a ‘Faces & places’ booklet. This is a book with the best pictures and quotes. Originally, it also had addresses and phone numbers of the students so people could stay in touch, but effectively this has been deprecated by social media such as Facebook.
Summary
By upholding the above strategy, the exchange students will get to know the goals and activities of FReC before they have arrived. By leading and guiding the students from the day of arrival onward with activities and meetings, a bond is formed with and between the students, and the role FReC can play becomes clear. This bond increases by regularly organizing parties and activities during the semester. Eventually, a firm group with good friendships forms, and FReC has achieved her goals.
